Atos 26— comparação

1Agripa disse a Paulo: “Você tem permissão para falar por si mesmo.”

2“Considero-me feliz, rei Agripa, por poder fazer a minha defesa diante do senhor hoje, a respeito de todas as coisas de que sou acusado pelos judeus,

3especialmente porque o senhor é especialista em todos os costumes e questões que existem entre os judeus. Portanto, peço-lhe que me ouça com paciência.

4“De fato, todos os judeus conhecem o meu modo de viver desde a minha juventude, o qual desde o princípio foi entre a minha própria nação e em Jerusalém;

5eles me conhecem desde o princípio e, se quisessem, poderiam testemunhar que, segundo a seita mais rigorosa da nossa religião, vivi como fariseu.

6E agora estou aqui para ser julgado por causa da esperança da promessa feita por Deus aos nossos pais,

7a qual as nossas doze tribos, servindo a Deus fervorosamente noite e dia, esperam alcançar. É por causa desta esperança que sou acusado pelos judeus, rei Agripa!

8Por que é considerado incrível entre vocês que Deus ressuscite os mortos?

9“Eu mesmo, com toda a certeza, pensava que devia fazer muitas coisas contra o nome de Jesus de Nazaré.

10E foi isso que fiz em Jerusalém. Não apenas encerrei muitos dos santos em prisões, tendo recebido autoridade dos principais sacerdotes, mas também, quando eram mortos, eu dava o meu voto contra eles.

11Castigando-os frequentemente em todas as sinagogas, eu tentava forçá-los a blasfemar. Estando excessivamente enfurecido contra eles, eu os persegui até mesmo em cidades estrangeiras.

12“Com este propósito, enquanto eu viajava para Damasco com a autoridade e comissão dos principais sacerdotes,

13ao meio-dia, ó rei, vi no caminho uma luz do céu, mais brilhante que o sol, brilhando ao redor de mim e dos que viajavam comigo.

14Quando todos nós caímos por terra, ouvi uma voz me dizendo no idioma hebraico: 'Saulo, Saulo, por que você me persegue? É duro para você recalcitrar contra os aguilhões.'

15“Eu disse: 'Quem és tu, Senhor?'

16Mas levante-se e ponha-se de pé, pois eu apareci a você com este propósito: para constituí-lo servo e testemunha tanto das coisas que você viu como daquelas que eu ainda lhe revelarei;

17livrando-o do povo e dos gentios, aos quais eu o envio,

18para abrir-lhes os olhos, a fim de que se convertam das trevas para a luz, e do poder de Satanás para Deus, para que recebam a remissão dos pecados e uma herança entre os que são santificados pela fé em mim.'

19“Portanto, rei Agripa, não fui desobediente à visão celestial,

20mas anunciei primeiramente aos de Damasco, em Jerusalém e por toda a região da Judeia, e também aos gentios, que deveriam se arrepender e se voltar para Deus, praticando obras dignas de arrependimento.

21Por esta razão os judeus me prenderam no templo e tentaram me matar.

22Tendo, portanto, obtido o socorro que vem de Deus, permaneço até o dia de hoje testemunhando tanto a pequenos como a grandes, não dizendo nada além do que os profetas e Moisés disseram que iria acontecer:

23que o Cristo devia sofrer, e que, sendo o primeiro na ressurreição dos mortos, ele proclamaria luz tanto a este povo como aos gentios.”

24Enquanto ele fazia assim a sua defesa, Festo disse em alta voz: “Você está louco, Paulo! O seu muito saber o está levando à loucura!”

25Mas ele disse: “Não estou louco, excelentíssimo Festo, mas declaro ousadamente palavras de verdade e de bom senso.

26Pois o rei tem conhecimento destas coisas, e a ele também falo com franqueza. Pois estou persuadido de que nenhuma destas coisas lhe está oculta, porque isto não foi feito em um canto.

27Rei Agripa, o senhor crê nos profetas? Eu sei que crê.”

28Agripa disse a Paulo: “Com um pouco de persuasão você está tentando me fazer cristão?”

29Paulo disse: “Eu oro a Deus para que, seja com pouco ou com muito, não apenas o senhor, mas também todos os que me ouvem hoje, se tornem como eu sou, exceto por estas algemas.”

30O rei se levantou com o governador e Berenice, e os que estavam sentados com eles.

31Quando se retiraram, falavam uns com os outros, dizendo: “Este homem não fez nada digno de morte ou de prisão.”

32Agripa disse a Festo: “Este homem poderia ter sido solto, se não tivesse apelado para César.”

1Agrippa said to Paul, “You may speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand, and made his defense.

2“I think myself happy, King Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before you today concerning all the things that I am accused by the Jews,

3especially because you are expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently.

4“Indeed, all the Jews know my way of life from my youth up, which was from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem;

5having known me from the first, if they are willing to testify, that after the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

6Now I stand here to be judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers,

7which our twelve tribes, earnestly serving night and day, hope to attain. Concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, King Agrippa!

8Why is it judged incredible with you if God does raise the dead?

9“I myself most certainly thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

10I also did this in Jerusalem. I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them.

11Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

12“Whereupon as I traveled to Damascus with the authority and commission from the chief priests,

13at noon, O king, I saw on the way a light from the sky, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who traveled with me.

14When we had all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’*

15“I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ “He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. *

16But arise, and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose: to appoint you a servant and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will reveal to you; *

17delivering you from the people and from the Gentiles, to whom I send you, *

18to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’*

19“Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

20but declared first to them of Damascus, at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

21For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me.

22Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would happen,

23how the Christ must suffer, and how, by the resurrection of the dead, he would be first to proclaim light both to these people and to the Gentiles.”

24As he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are crazy! Your great learning is driving you insane!”

25But he said, “I am not crazy, most excellent Festus, but boldly declare words of truth and reasonableness.

26For the king knows of these things, to whom also I speak freely. For I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him, for this has not been done in a corner.

27King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.”

28Agrippa said to Paul, “With a little persuasion are you trying to make me a Christian?”

29Paul said, “I pray to God, that whether with little or with much, not only you, but also all that hear me today, might become such as I am, except for these bonds.”

30The king rose up with the governor and Bernice, and those who sat with them.

31When they had withdrawn, they spoke to one another, saying, “This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.”

32Agrippa said to Festus, “This man might have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”
