Romanos 7— comparação

1Ou vocês não sabem, irmãos (pois falo aos que conhecem a lei), que a lei tem domínio sobre o homem enquanto ele vive?

2Pois a mulher que tem marido está ligada pela lei ao marido enquanto ele vive, mas se o marido morrer, ela está desobrigada da lei do marido.

3Assim, pois, se, enquanto o marido vive, ela se unir a outro homem, será chamada adúltera. Mas se o marido morrer, ela está livre da lei, de modo que não é adúltera, embora se una a outro homem.

4Portanto, meus irmãos, vocês também foram mortos para a lei por meio do corpo de Cristo, para que fossem unidos a outro, àquele que foi ressuscitado dentre os mortos, a fim de que produzamos fruto para Deus.

5Pois quando estávamos na carne, as paixões pecaminosas, que eram por meio da lei, operavam em nossos membros para produzir fruto para a morte.

6Mas agora fomos desobrigados da lei, tendo morrido para aquilo em que éramos retidos; de modo que servimos na novidade do espírito, e não na velhice da letra.

7O que diremos então? A lei é pecado? De modo nenhum! Contudo, eu não teria conhecido o pecado, a não ser por meio da lei. Pois eu não teria conhecido a cobiça, se a lei não dissesse: “Não cobiçarás.”

8Mas o pecado, encontrando ocasião por meio do mandamento, produziu em mim toda espécie de cobiça. Pois, sem a lei, o pecado está morto.

9Outrora eu vivia sem a lei, mas quando o mandamento veio, o pecado reviveu e eu morri.

10O mandamento que era para a vida, esse eu descobri que era para a morte;

11pois o pecado, encontrando ocasião por meio do mandamento, me enganou, e por meio dele me matou.

12Portanto, a lei de fato é santa, e o mandamento santo, justo e bom.

13Então, aquilo que é bom se tornou morte para mim? De modo nenhum! Mas o pecado, para que se mostrasse pecado, estava produzindo morte em mim por meio do que é bom; a fim de que, por meio do mandamento, o pecado se tornasse extremamente pecaminoso.

14Pois sabemos que a lei é espiritual, mas eu sou carnal, vendido sob o pecado.

15Pois eu não entendo o que estou fazendo. Pois não pratico o que desejo fazer; mas o que odeio, isso eu faço.

16Mas se faço o que não desejo, concordo com a lei que ela é boa.

17Assim, agora, já não sou eu quem faz isso, mas o pecado que habita em mim.

18Pois eu sei que em mim, isto é, na minha carne, não habita bem nenhum. Pois o desejo está presente em mim, mas não encontro como fazer o que é bom.

19Pois o bem que desejo, não faço; mas o mal que não desejo, esse eu pratico.

20Mas se faço o que não desejo, já não sou eu quem faz isso, mas o pecado que habita em mim.

21Encontro então a lei de que, enquanto desejo fazer o bem, o mal está presente.

22Pois eu me deleito na lei de Deus segundo o homem interior,

23mas vejo uma lei diferente em meus membros, guerreando contra a lei da minha mente, e me levando cativo sob a lei do pecado que está em meus membros.

24Miserável homem que sou! Quem me livrará do corpo desta morte?

25Dou graças a Deus por meio de Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor! Assim, pois, com a mente, eu mesmo sirvo à lei de Deus, mas com a carne, à lei do pecado.

1Or don’t you know, brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?

2For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

3So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.

4Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might produce fruit to God.

5For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law worked in our members to bring out fruit to death.

6But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

7What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”

8But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

9I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

10The commandment which was for life, this I found to be for death;

11for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.

12Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, righteous, and good.

13Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.

14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.

15For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.

16But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.

17So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

18For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.

19For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.

20But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

21I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

22For I delight in God’s law after the inward person,

23but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

24What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?

25I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, sin’s law.
