Josué 7— comparação

1Mas os filhos de Israel cometeram uma transgressão quanto às coisas consagradas; pois Acã, filho de Carmi, filho de Zabdi, filho de Zera, da tribo de Judá, pegou algumas das coisas consagradas. Por isso, a ira do SENHOR se acendeu contra os filhos de Israel.

2Josué enviou homens de Jericó a Ai, que fica perto de Bete-Áven, a leste de Betel, e lhes falou, dizendo: “Subam e espionem a terra.”

3Eles voltaram a Josué e lhe disseram: “Não deixe todo o povo subir, mas que subam cerca de dois ou três mil homens para atacar Ai. Não faça todo o povo se fatigar indo até lá, pois eles são poucos.”

4Então, cerca de três mil homens do povo subiram para lá, mas eles fugiram diante dos homens de Ai.

5Os homens de Ai feriram cerca de trinta e seis homens deles. Eles os perseguiram desde a porta até Sebarim, e os feriram na descida. O coração do povo se derreteu e se tornou como água.

6Josué rasgou as suas roupas e prostrou-se com o rosto em terra diante da arca do SENHOR até a tarde, ele e os anciãos de Israel; e colocaram pó sobre as suas cabeças.

7Josué disse: “Ah, Senhor DEUS, por que fizeste este povo atravessar o Jordão, para nos entregar nas mãos dos amorreus, para nos destruir? Quem dera tivéssemos nos contentado em viver do outro lado do Jordão!

8Ah, Senhor, o que direi, depois que Israel virou as costas diante dos seus inimigos?

9Pois os cananeus e todos os habitantes da terra ouvirão sobre isso, nos cercarão e eliminarão o nosso nome da terra. O que farás pelo teu grande nome?”

10O SENHOR disse a Josué: “Levante-se! Por que você está assim prostrado com o rosto em terra?

11Israel pecou. Sim, eles até transgrediram a minha aliança que lhes ordenei. Sim, eles até pegaram algumas das coisas consagradas, e também roubaram, e também enganaram. Eles até as colocaram no meio da sua própria bagagem.

12Por isso os filhos de Israel não podem resistir diante dos seus inimigos. Eles viram as costas diante dos seus inimigos, porque se tornaram consagrados para a destruição. Não estarei mais com vocês, a menos que destruam as coisas consagradas do meio de vocês.

13Levante-se! Santifique o povo e diga: ‘Santifiquem-se para amanhã, pois o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, diz: “Há uma coisa consagrada no meio de você, Israel. Você não poderá resistir diante dos seus inimigos até que tire a coisa consagrada do seu meio.”

14Portanto, pela manhã, vocês se apresentarão segundo as suas tribos. A tribo que o SENHOR selecionar se apresentará por famílias. A família que o SENHOR selecionar se apresentará por casas. A casa que o SENHOR selecionar se apresentará homem por homem.

15Aquele que for pego com a coisa consagrada será queimado no fogo, ele e tudo o que tem, porque transgrediu a aliança do SENHOR, e porque cometeu um ato vergonhoso em Israel.’”

16Então Josué se levantou de madrugada e fez Israel se apresentar segundo as suas tribos. A tribo de Judá foi selecionada.

17Ele fez a família de Judá se apresentar, e selecionou a família dos zeraítas. Ele fez a família dos zeraítas se apresentar homem por homem, e Zabdi foi selecionado.

18Ele fez a sua casa se apresentar homem por homem, e Acã, filho de Carmi, filho de Zabdi, filho de Zera, da tribo de Judá, foi selecionado.

19Josué disse a Acã: “Meu filho, por favor, dê glória ao SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, e faça confissão a ele. Diga-me agora o que você fez! Não esconda isso de mim!”

20Acã respondeu a Josué, e disse: “Verdadeiramente pequei contra o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, e foi isso o que fiz.

21Quando vi entre os despojos uma bela capa babilônica, duzentos siclos de prata, e uma barra de ouro pesando cinquenta siclos, então eu os cobicei e os peguei. Eis que estão escondidos na terra, no meio da minha tenda, com a prata por baixo.”

22Então Josué enviou mensageiros, e eles correram até a tenda. Eis que tudo estava escondido em sua tenda, com a prata por baixo.

23Eles os tiraram do meio da tenda, e os trouxeram a Josué e a todos os filhos de Israel. E os colocaram diante do SENHOR.

24Josué, e todo o Israel com ele, pegaram Acã, filho de Zera, a prata, a capa, a barra de ouro, seus filhos, suas filhas, seus bois, seus jumentos, suas ovelhas, sua tenda, e tudo o que ele tinha; e os levaram para cima, ao vale de Acor.

25Josué disse: “Por que você nos trouxe desgraça? O SENHOR trará desgraça sobre você hoje.” Todo o Israel o apedrejou com pedras, e os queimaram no fogo e os apedrejaram com pedras.

26Eles levantaram sobre ele um grande monte de pedras que permanece até o dia de hoje. O SENHOR se afastou do furor da sua ira. Por isso o nome daquele lugar foi chamado “O vale de Acor” até o dia de hoje.

1But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.

2Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.

3They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”

4So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.

5The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.

6Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before Yahweh’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.

7Joshua said, “Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!

8Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?

9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”

10Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?

11Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.

12Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

13Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”

14In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man.

15It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed Yahweh’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”

16So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.

17He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.

18He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.

19Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”

20Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.

21When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”

22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.

23They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before Yahweh.

24Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.

25Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.

26They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “The valley of Achor” to this day.
