Josué 5— comparação

1Quando todos os reis dos amorreus, que estavam do outro lado do Jordão, para o oeste, e todos os reis dos cananeus, que estavam junto ao mar, ouviram como o SENHOR tinha secado as águas do Jordão diante dos filhos de Israel até que tivéssemos atravessado, o coração deles se derreteu, e não houve mais ânimo neles, por causa dos filhos de Israel.

2Naquele tempo, o SENHOR disse a Josué: “Faça facas de pederneira e circuncide novamente os filhos de Israel, pela segunda vez.”

3Josué fez para si facas de pederneira e circuncidou os filhos de Israel na colina dos prepúcios.

4Esta é a razão pela qual Josué os circuncidou: todo o povo que saiu do Egito, que eram do sexo masculino, todos os homens de guerra, morreram no deserto, pelo caminho, depois de saírem do Egito.

5Pois todo o povo que saiu estava circuncidado; mas todo o povo que nasceu no deserto, pelo caminho, enquanto saíam do Egito, não havia sido circuncidado.

6Pois os filhos de Israel andaram quarenta anos no deserto, até que toda a nação, isto é, os homens de guerra que saíram do Egito, fossem consumidos, porque não deram ouvidos à voz do SENHOR. O SENHOR lhes jurou que não os deixaria ver a terra que o SENHOR jurou a seus pais que nos daria, uma terra que mana leite e mel.

7Seus filhos, a quem ele levantou em seu lugar, foram circuncidados por Josué, pois estavam incircuncisos, porque não os haviam circuncidado no caminho.

8Quando terminaram de circuncidar toda a nação, eles ficaram em seus lugares no acampamento até que sarassem.

9O SENHOR disse a Josué: “Hoje eu removi de vocês o opróbrio do Egito.” Portanto, o nome daquele lugar foi chamado Gilgal até o dia de hoje.

10Os filhos de Israel acamparam em Gilgal. Eles celebraram a Páscoa no décimo quarto dia do mês, à tarde, nas campinas de Jericó.

11Eles comeram pães ázimos e grãos tostados do produto da terra no dia seguinte à Páscoa, naquele mesmo dia.

12O maná cessou no dia seguinte, depois que comeram do produto da terra. Os filhos de Israel não tiveram mais maná, mas comeram do fruto da terra de Canaã naquele ano.

13Quando Josué estava perto de Jericó, ele levantou os olhos e olhou, e eis que um homem estava de pé diante dele com sua espada desembainhada na mão. Josué foi até ele e lhe disse: “Você é por nós, ou por nossos inimigos?”

14Ele disse: “Não; mas venho agora como comandante do exército do SENHOR.”

15O príncipe do exército do SENHOR disse a Josué: “Tire as sandálias, pois o lugar em que você está é santo.” E Josué assim o fez.

1When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.

2At that time, Yahweh said to Joshua, “Make flint knives, and circumcise again the sons of Israel the second time.”

3Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

4This is the reason Joshua circumcised them: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness along the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.

6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to Yahweh’s voice. Yahweh swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which Yahweh swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

7Their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.

8When they were done circumcising the whole nation, they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed.

9Yahweh said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal to this day.

10The children of Israel encamped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.

11They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day.

12The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn’t have manna any more, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

13When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our enemies?”

14He said, “No; but I have come now as commander of Yahweh’s army.” Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and asked him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”

15The prince of Yahweh’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals, for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.
