Jeremias 5— comparação

1“Corram de um lado para outro pelas ruas de Jerusalém, olhem agora, e informem-se; busquem em suas praças, para ver se conseguem encontrar um homem, se há alguém que pratique a justiça, que busque a verdade; então eu a perdoarei.

2Embora digam: ‘Tão certo como vive o SENHOR’, certamente juram falso.”

3Ó SENHOR, os teus olhos não atentam para a verdade? Tu os feriste, mas eles não sentiram dor. Tu os consumiste, mas eles se recusaram a aceitar a correção. Fizeram os seus rostos mais duros do que a rocha. Recusaram-se a voltar.

4Então eu disse: “Certamente estes são pobres. São insensatos; pois não conhecem o caminho do SENHOR, nem a lei do seu Deus.

5Irei aos grandes homens e falarei com eles, pois eles conhecem o caminho do SENHOR, e a lei do seu Deus.” Mas estes, de comum acordo, quebraram o jugo e romperam as ataduras.

6Portanto, um leão da floresta os matará. Um lobo ao anoitecer os destruirá. Um leopardo vigiará contra as suas cidades. Todo aquele que sair de lá será despedaçado, porque as suas transgressões são muitas e as suas apostasias se multiplicaram.

7“Como posso perdoar você? Seus filhos me abandonaram, e juraram por aqueles que não são deuses. Quando eu os fartei, eles cometeram adultério, e se reuniram em bandos nas casas das prostitutas.

8Eram como cavalos bem alimentados e soltos. Cada um rinchava para a mulher do seu próximo.

9Não deveria eu puni-los por estas coisas?” diz o SENHOR. “Não deveria a minha alma se vingar de uma nação como esta?

10“Subam em seus muros, e destruam, mas não deem um fim total. Arranquem os seus ramos, pois eles não são do SENHOR.

11Pois a casa de Israel e a casa de Judá agiram com grande traição contra mim,” diz o SENHOR.

12Eles negaram o SENHOR, e disseram: “Não é ele. O mal não virá sobre nós. Não veremos espada nem fome.

13Os profetas se tornarão vento, e a palavra não está neles. Assim seja feito a eles.”

14Portanto, assim diz o SENHOR, o Deus dos Exércitos: “Porque vocês falam esta palavra, eis que farei com que as minhas palavras na sua boca sejam fogo, e este povo seja lenha, e o fogo os devorará.

15Eis que trarei sobre vocês uma nação de longe, ó casa de Israel,” diz o SENHOR. “É uma nação poderosa. É uma nação antiga, uma nação cuja língua vocês não conhecem e não entendem o que eles dizem.

16A sua aljava é um sepulcro aberto. Todos eles são homens valentes.

17Eles devorarão a sua colheita e o seu pão, que os seus filhos e as suas filhas deveriam comer. Eles devorarão os seus rebanhos e o seu gado. Eles devorarão as suas videiras e as suas figueiras. Eles derrubarão à espada as suas cidades fortificadas nas quais vocês confiam.

18“Mas mesmo naqueles dias,” diz o SENHOR, “eu não darei um fim total a vocês.

19Acontecerá que, quando vocês disserem: ‘Por que o SENHOR nosso Deus nos fez todas estas coisas?’ Então você lhes dirá: ‘Assim como vocês me abandonaram e serviram a deuses estrangeiros na sua terra, assim vocês servirão a estrangeiros em uma terra que não é de vocês.’

20“Anunciem isto na casa de Jacó, e publiquem em Judá, dizendo:

21‘Ouçam agora isto, povo insensato e sem entendimento, que tem olhos, e não vê, que tem ouvidos, e não ouve:

22Vocês não me temem?’ diz o SENHOR; ‘Não tremerão diante da minha presença, eu que coloquei a areia como limite do mar por um decreto perpétuo, para que não o possa ultrapassar? Embora as suas ondas se agitem, não podem prevalecer. Embora rujam, ainda assim não podem ultrapassá-lo.’

23“Mas este povo tem um coração obstinado e rebelde. Eles se rebelaram e foram embora.

24Eles não dizem em seu coração: ‘Temamos agora ao SENHOR nosso Deus, que dá a chuva, tanto a temporã quanto a serôdia, a seu tempo, que nos preserva as semanas determinadas da colheita.’

25“As iniquidades de vocês desviaram estas coisas, e os seus pecados afastaram de vocês o bem.

26Pois homens ímpios são encontrados entre o meu povo. Eles vigiam, como caçadores de pássaros à espreita. Eles armam armadilhas. Eles capturam homens.

27Como uma gaiola está cheia de pássaros, assim as casas deles estão cheias de engano. Por isso eles se tornaram grandes, e enriqueceram.

28Eles engordaram. Eles brilham; sim, eles se excedem em atos de maldade. Eles não defendem a causa, a causa do órfão, para que possam prosperar; e não defendem os direitos dos necessitados.

29“Não deveria eu punir por estas coisas?” diz o SENHOR. “Não deveria a minha alma se vingar de uma nação como esta?

30“Uma coisa espantosa e horrível aconteceu na terra.

31Os profetas profetizam falsamente, e os sacerdotes governam por sua própria autoridade; e o meu povo ama que seja assim. O que vocês farão no fim disso?

1“Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its wide places, if you can find a man, if there is anyone who does justly, who seeks truth, then I will pardon her.

2Though they say, ‘As Yahweh lives,’ surely they swear falsely.”

3O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

4Then I said, “Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they don’t know Yahweh’s way, nor the law of their God.

5I will go to the great men and will speak to them, for they know the way of Yahweh, and the law of their God.” But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

6Therefore a lion out of the forest will kill them. A wolf of the evenings will destroy them. A leopard will watch against their cities. Everyone who goes out there will be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many and their backsliding has increased.

7“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes’ houses.

8They were as fed horses roaming at large. Everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

9Shouldn’t I punish them for these things?” says Yahweh. “Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

10“Go up on her walls, and destroy, but don’t make a full end. Take away her branches, for they are not Yahweh’s.

11For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me,” says Yahweh.

12They have denied Yahweh, and said, “It is not he. Evil won’t come on us. We won’t see sword or famine.

13The prophets will become wind, and the word is not in them. Thus it will be done to them.”

14Therefore Yahweh, the God of Armies says, “Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it will devour them.

15Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far away, house of Israel,” says Yahweh. “It is a mighty nation. It is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don’t know and don’t understand what they say.

16Their quiver is an open tomb. They are all mighty men.

17They will eat up your harvest and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat. They will eat up your flocks and your herds. They will eat up your vines and your fig trees. They will beat down your fortified cities in which you trust with the sword.

18“But even in those days,” says Yahweh, “I will not make a full end of you.

19It will happen when you say, ‘Why has Yahweh our God done all these things to us?’ Then you shall say to them, ‘Just as you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a land that is not yours.’

20“Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

21‘Hear this now, foolish people without understanding, who have eyes, and don’t see, who have ears, and don’t hear:

22Don’t you fear me?’ says Yahweh; ‘Won’t you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it can’t pass it? Though its waves toss themselves, yet they can’t prevail. Though they roar, they still can’t pass over it.’

23“But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart. They have revolted and gone.

24They don’t say in their heart, ‘Let’s now fear Yahweh our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season, who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.’

25“Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.

26For wicked men are found among my people. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.

27As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.

28They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t defend the rights of the needy.

29“Shouldn’t I punish for these things?” says Yahweh. “Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

30“An astonishing and horrible thing has happened in the land.

31The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will you do in the end of it?
