Ester 9— comparação

1No décimo segundo mês, que é o mês de adar, no décimo terceiro dia do mês, quando a ordem do rei e o seu decreto estavam prestes a ser executados, no dia em que os inimigos dos judeus esperavam dominá-los (mas aconteceu o contrário, pois os judeus dominaram aqueles que os odiavam),

2os judeus se reuniram em suas cidades, em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, para pôr as mãos naqueles que queriam fazer-lhes mal. Ninguém podia resistir a eles, porque o medo deles havia caído sobre todos os povos.

3Todos os príncipes das províncias, os governadores locais, os governadores e os que cuidavam dos negócios do rei ajudaram os judeus, porque o medo de Mardoqueu havia caído sobre eles.

4Pois Mardoqueu era grande na casa do rei, e a sua fama se espalhava por todas as províncias, pois o homem Mardoqueu se tornava cada vez mais poderoso.

5Os judeus feriram todos os seus inimigos a golpes de espada, com matança e destruição, e fizeram o que queriam com aqueles que os odiavam.

6Na cidadela de Susã, os judeus mataram e destruíram quinhentos homens.

7Eles mataram Parsandata, Dalfom, Aspata,

8Porata, Adália, Aridata,

9Parmasta, Arisai, Aridai e Vaizata,

10os dez filhos de Hamã, filho de Hamedata, o inimigo dos judeus; mas não puseram as mãos nos despojos.

11Naquele dia, o número dos que foram mortos na cidadela de Susã foi levado à presença do rei.

12O rei disse à rainha Ester: “Os judeus mataram e destruíram quinhentos homens na cidadela de Susã, incluindo os dez filhos de Hamã; o que então eles terão feito no resto das províncias do rei! Agora, qual é a sua petição? Ela lhe será concedida. Qual é o seu próximo pedido? Ele será atendido.”

13Então Ester disse: “Se for do agrado do rei, que seja concedido aos judeus que estão em Susã que façam também amanhã segundo o decreto de hoje, e que os dez filhos de Hamã sejam enforcados na forca.”

14O rei ordenou que isso fosse feito. Um decreto foi publicado em Susã; e eles enforcaram os dez filhos de Hamã.

15Os judeus que estavam em Susã se reuniram também no décimo quarto dia do mês de adar, e mataram trezentos homens em Susã; mas não puseram as mãos nos despojos.

16Os outros judeus que estavam nas províncias do rei se reuniram, defenderam as suas vidas, tiveram descanso dos seus inimigos e mataram setenta e cinco mil daqueles que os odiavam; mas não puseram as mãos nos despojos.

17Isso foi feito no décimo terceiro dia do mês de adar; e no décimo quarto dia desse mês eles descansaram e o tornaram um dia de banquete e alegria.

18Mas os judeus que estavam em Susã se reuniram no décimo terceiro e no décimo quarto dias do mês; e no décimo quinto dia desse mês, eles descansaram, e o tornaram um dia de banquete e alegria.

19Portanto, os judeus das aldeias, que vivem nas cidades sem muros, fazem do décimo quarto dia do mês de adar um dia de alegria e banquete, um dia de festa, e um dia de enviar presentes de comida uns aos outros.

20Mardoqueu escreveu essas coisas e enviou cartas a todos os judeus que estavam em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, tanto perto quanto longe,

21para lhes ordenar que guardassem o décimo quarto e o décimo quinto dias do mês de adar, anualmente,

22como os dias em que os judeus tiveram descanso dos seus inimigos, e o mês que se transformou para eles de tristeza em alegria, e de luto em um dia de festa; que eles os fizessem dias de banquete e alegria, e de enviar presentes de comida uns aos outros, e dádivas aos necessitados.

23Os judeus aceitaram o costume que haviam começado, conforme Mardoqueu lhes havia escrito,

24porque Hamã, filho de Hamedata, o agagita, o inimigo de todos os judeus, havia tramado contra os judeus para destruí-los, e havia lançado o “Pur”, isto é, a sorte, para consumi-los e destruí-los;

25mas quando isso chegou ao conhecimento do rei, ele ordenou por cartas que o plano perverso, que ele havia planejado contra os judeus, recaísse sobre a sua própria cabeça, e que ele e os seus filhos fossem enforcados na forca.

26Portanto, eles chamaram esses dias de “Purim”, da palavra “Pur”. Portanto, por causa de todas as palavras desta carta, e daquilo que eles tinham visto a respeito desse assunto, e daquilo que lhes havia acontecido,

27os judeus estabeleceram e impuseram a si mesmos, aos seus descendentes e a todos aqueles que se juntassem a eles, para que não deixassem de guardar esses dois dias, de acordo com o que estava escrito e de acordo com o seu tempo determinado, todos os anos;

28e que esses dias fossem lembrados e guardados por todas as gerações, todas as famílias, todas as províncias e todas as cidades; e que esses dias de Purim não deixassem de ser celebrados entre os judeus, nem a sua memória perecesse entre os seus descendentes.

29Então a rainha Ester, filha de Abiail, e o judeu Mardoqueu escreveram com toda a autoridade para confirmar esta segunda carta de Purim.

30Ele enviou cartas a todos os judeus nas cento e vinte e sete províncias do reino de Assuero com palavras de paz e verdade,

31para confirmar esses dias de Purim em seus tempos determinados, conforme o judeu Mardoqueu e a rainha Ester haviam decretado, e conforme eles haviam imposto a si mesmos e aos seus descendentes na questão dos jejuns e do seu pranto.

32A ordem de Ester confirmou essas questões de Purim; e isso foi escrito no livro.

1Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the month, when the king’s commandment and his decree came near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to conquer them, (but it turned out that the opposite happened, that the Jews conquered those who hated them),

2the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, to lay hands on those who wanted to harm them. No one could withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen on all the people.

3All the princes of the provinces, the local governors, the governors, and those who did the king’s business helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.

4For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces, for the man Mordecai grew greater and greater.

5The Jews struck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they wanted to those who hated them.

6In the citadel of Susa, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men.

7They killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

8Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,

9Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha,

10the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jews’ enemy, but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

11On that day, the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Susa was brought before the king.

12The king said to Esther the queen, “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done.”

13Then Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Susa to do tomorrow also according to today’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.”

14The king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Susa; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

15The Jews who were in Susa gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and killed three hundred men in Susa; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

16The other Jews who were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

17This was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of that month they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

18But the Jews who were in Susa assembled together on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth days of the month; and on the fifteenth day of that month, they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

19Therefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, a holiday, and a day of sending presents of food to one another.

20Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, both near and far,

21to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month Adar yearly,

22as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.

23The Jews accepted the custom that they had begun, as Mordecai had written to them,

24because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast “Pur”, that is the lot, to consume them and to destroy them;

25but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked plan, which he had planned against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

26Therefore they called these days “Purim”, from the word “Pur.” Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come to them,

27the Jews established and imposed on themselves, on their descendants, and on all those who joined themselves to them, so that it should not fail that they would keep these two days according to what was written and according to its appointed time every year;

28and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor their memory perish from their offspring.

29Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim.

30He sent letters to all the Jews in the hundred twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus with words of peace and truth,

31to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had decreed, and as they had imposed upon themselves and their descendants in the matter of the fastings and their mourning.

32The commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
