2 Samuel 15— comparação

1Depois disso, Absalão preparou para si um carro e cavalos, e cinquenta homens para correrem na sua frente.

2Absalão se levantava cedo, e ficava ao lado do caminho da porta da cidade. Quando qualquer homem tinha um processo que deveria chegar ao rei para julgamento, então Absalão o chamava, e perguntava: “De qual cidade você é?”

3Absalão lhe dizia: “Eis que a sua causa é boa e justa; mas não há nenhum homem designado pelo rei para ouvi-lo.”

4Absalão dizia ainda: “Quem dera eu fosse constituído juiz na terra, para que todo homem que tivesse qualquer processo ou causa viesse a mim, e eu lhe faria justiça!”

5E acontecia que, quando qualquer homem se aproximava para se curvar diante dele, ele estendia a mão, o segurava e o beijava.

6Absalão agia desta forma com todo o Israel que vinha ao rei para julgamento. Assim, Absalão roubou os corações dos homens de Israel.

7Ao fim de quarenta anos, Absalão disse ao rei: “Por favor, deixe-me ir pagar o meu voto, que fiz ao SENHOR, em Hebrom.

8Pois o seu servo fez um voto enquanto morava em Gesur, na Síria, dizendo: 'Se o SENHOR de fato me trouxer de volta a Jerusalém, então eu servirei ao SENHOR.'”

9O rei lhe disse: “Vá em paz.”

10Mas Absalão enviou espiões por todas as tribos de Israel, dizendo: “Assim que ouvirem o som da trombeta, então vocês devem dizer: 'Absalão é rei em Hebrom!'”

11Duzentos homens saíram de Jerusalém com Absalão; eles haviam sido convidados e foram com simplicidade de coração; e não sabiam de nada.

12Absalão mandou chamar Aitofel, o gilonita, conselheiro de Davi, da sua cidade, isto é, de Gilo, enquanto oferecia os sacrifícios. A conspiração ficou forte, pois o povo aumentava continuamente ao lado de Absalão.

13Um mensageiro veio a Davi, dizendo: “Os corações dos homens de Israel estão seguindo Absalão.”

14Davi disse a todos os seus servos que estavam com ele em Jerusalém: “Levantem-se! Vamos fugir, caso contrário, nenhum de nós escapará de Absalão. Apressem-se para partir, para que ele não nos alcance rapidamente e traga o mal sobre nós, e fira a cidade com o fio da espada.”

15Os servos do rei disseram ao rei: “Eis que os seus servos estão prontos para fazer qualquer coisa que o meu senhor, o rei, escolher.”

16O rei saiu, e toda a sua família atrás dele. O rei deixou dez mulheres, que eram concubinas, para cuidarem da casa.

17O rei saiu, e todo o povo atrás dele; e eles pararam em Bete-Mercaque.

18Todos os seus servos passaram ao lado dele; e todos os quereteus, e todos os peleteus, e todos os geteus, seiscentos homens que vieram com ele de Gate, passaram adiante do rei.

19Então o rei disse a Itai, o geteu: “Por que você também está vindo conosco? Volte e fique com o rei; pois você é estrangeiro e também exilado. Volte para o seu próprio lugar.

20Considerando que você chegou apenas ontem, deveria eu hoje fazê-lo perambular conosco, já que eu vou para onde quer que consiga ir? Volte, e leve de volta os seus irmãos. Que o amor leal e a fidelidade estejam com você.”

21Itai respondeu ao rei e disse: “Tão certo como vive o SENHOR, e como vive o meu senhor, o rei, certamente no lugar onde o meu senhor, o rei, estiver, seja para morte ou para vida, o seu servo também estará lá.”

22Davi disse a Itai: “Vá e siga em frente.” Itai, o geteu, seguiu em frente, com todos os seus homens, e todas as crianças que estavam com ele.

23Toda a região chorava em alta voz, e todo o povo atravessava. O próprio rei também atravessou o ribeiro de Cedrom, e todo o povo atravessou rumo ao caminho do deserto.

24Eis que Zadoque também vinha, e todos os levitas com ele, carregando a arca da aliança de Deus; e eles colocaram no chão a arca de Deus; e Abiatar ofereceu sacrifícios até que todo o povo terminasse de passar para fora da cidade.

25O rei disse a Zadoque: “Leve a arca de Deus de volta para a cidade. Se eu encontrar favor aos olhos do SENHOR, ele me trará de volta, e me mostrará tanto a ela quanto a sua morada;

26mas se ele disser: 'Não tenho prazer em você', eis-me aqui. Que ele faça comigo o que lhe parecer bem.”

27O rei disse também ao sacerdote Zadoque: “Você não é um vidente? Volte em paz para a cidade, e os seus dois filhos com você, Aimaás, seu filho, e Jônatas, filho de Abiatar.

28Eis que eu ficarei nos vaus do deserto até que venha palavra de vocês para me informar.”

29Zadoque, portanto, e Abiatar levaram a arca de Deus de volta para Jerusalém; e eles ficaram lá.

30Davi subia pela encosta do Monte das Oliveiras, e chorava enquanto subia; e ele estava com a cabeça coberta e andava descalço. Todo o povo que estava com ele também tinha a cabeça coberta, e eles subiam, chorando pelo caminho.

31Alguém informou a Davi, dizendo: “Aitofel está entre os conspiradores com Absalão.”

32Quando Davi chegou ao topo, onde se adorava a Deus, eis que Husai, o arquita, veio ao seu encontro, com a túnica rasgada e terra sobre a cabeça.

33Davi lhe disse: “Se você seguir em frente comigo, será um peso para mim;

34mas se você voltar para a cidade e disser a Absalão: 'Serei teu servo, ó rei. Como fui servo do seu pai no passado, assim serei agora o seu servo'; então você derrotará para mim o conselho de Aitofel.

35Você não tem lá os sacerdotes Zadoque e Abiatar com você? Portanto, tudo o que você ouvir da casa do rei, conte aos sacerdotes Zadoque e Abiatar.

36Eis que eles têm lá com eles os seus dois filhos, Aimaás, filho de Zadoque, e Jônatas, filho de Abiatar. Enviem por meio deles a mim tudo o que vocês ouvirem.”

37Assim Husai, amigo de Davi, entrou na cidade; e Absalão entrou em Jerusalém.

1After this, Absalom prepared a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him.

2Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate. When any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him, and said, “What city are you from?” He said, “Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.”

3Absalom said to him, “Behold, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you.”

4Absalom said moreover, “Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!”

5It was so, that when any man came near to bow down to him, he stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and kissed him.

6Absalom did this sort of thing to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

7At the end of forty years, Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to Yahweh, in Hebron.

8For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, ‘If Yahweh shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve Yahweh.’”

9The king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron.

10But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron!’”

11Two hundred men went with Absalom out of Jerusalem, who were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they didn’t know anything.

12Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.

13A messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.”

14David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise! Let’s flee, or else none of us will escape from Absalom. Hurry to depart, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”

15The king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king chooses.”

16The king went out, and all his household after him. The king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house.

17The king went out, and all the people after him; and they stayed in Beth Merhak.

18All his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.

19Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why do you also go with us? Return, and stay with the king; for you are a foreigner and also an exile. Return to your own place.

20Whereas you came but yesterday, should I today make you go up and down with us, since I go where I may? Return, and take back your brothers. Mercy and truth be with you.”

21Ittai answered the king and said, “As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king is, whether for death or for life, your servant will be there also.”

22David said to Ittai, “Go and pass over.” Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones who were with him.

23All the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over. The king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.

24Behold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down God’s ark; and Abiathar went up until all the people finished passing out of the city.

25The king said to Zadok, “Carry God’s ark back into the city. If I find favor in Yahweh’s eyes, he will bring me again, and show me both it and his habitation;

26but if he says, ‘I have no delight in you,’ behold, here I am. Let him do to me as seems good to him.”

27The king said also to Zadok the priest, “Aren’t you a seer? Return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

28Behold, I will stay at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”

29Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried God’s ark to Jerusalem again; and they stayed there.

30David went up by the ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. All the people who were with him each covered his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

31Someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” David said, “Yahweh, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”

32When David had come to the top, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his tunic torn and earth on his head.

33David said to him, “If you pass on with me, then you will be a burden to me;

34but if you return to the city, and tell Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king. As I have been your father’s servant in time past, so I will now be your servant; then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.’

35Don’t you have Zadok and Abiathar the priests there with you? Therefore whatever you hear out of the king’s house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

36Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son. Send to me everything that you shall hear by them.”

37So Hushai, David’s friend, came into the city; and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
