2 Samuel 10— comparação

1Depois disso, o rei dos filhos de Amom morreu, e Hanum, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

2Davi disse: “Mostrarei bondade a Hanum, filho de Naás, assim como seu pai mostrou bondade a mim.” Então Davi enviou os seus servos para consolá-lo a respeito de seu pai. Os servos de Davi chegaram à terra dos filhos de Amom.

3Mas os príncipes dos filhos de Amom disseram a Hanum, seu senhor: “Você acha que Davi está honrando o seu pai ao enviar consoladores a você? Acaso Davi não enviou os seus servos a você para investigar a cidade, para espioná-la e para destruí-la?”

4Então Hanum pegou os servos de Davi, raspou metade das suas barbas, cortou as suas roupas pelo meio, até as nádegas, e os mandou embora.

5Quando informaram isso a Davi, ele mandou mensageiros ao encontro deles, pois os homens estavam muito envergonhados. O rei disse: “Fiquem em Jericó até que as suas barbas cresçam, e depois retornem.”

6Quando os filhos de Amom viram que haviam se tornado odiosos a Davi, os filhos de Amom mandaram contratar os sírios de Bete-Reobe e os sírios de Zobá, vinte mil soldados de infantaria, e o rei de Maaca com mil homens, e os homens de Tobe, doze mil homens.

7Quando Davi ouviu isso, enviou Joabe e todo o exército dos homens valentes.

8Os filhos de Amom saíram e se puseram em ordem de batalha à entrada da porta da cidade. Os sírios de Zobá e de Reobe, e os homens de Tobe e de Maaca, estavam sozinhos no campo.

9Ora, quando Joabe viu que a batalha estava armada contra ele pela frente e por trás, ele escolheu os melhores homens de Israel e os colocou em ordem de batalha contra os sírios.

10O restante do povo ele entregou nas mãos de Abisai, seu irmão; e os colocou em ordem de batalha contra os filhos de Amom.

11Ele disse: “Se os sírios forem fortes demais para mim, então você me ajudará; mas se os filhos de Amom forem fortes demais para você, então eu irei ajudá-lo.

12Seja corajoso, e sejamos fortes pelo nosso povo e pelas cidades do nosso Deus; e que o SENHOR faça o que lhe parecer bem.”

13Então Joabe e o povo que estava com ele se aproximaram para a batalha contra os sírios, e eles fugiram de diante dele.

14Quando os filhos de Amom viram que os sírios haviam fugido, eles também fugiram de diante de Abisai e entraram na cidade. Então Joabe voltou da batalha contra os filhos de Amom e veio para Jerusalém.

15Quando os sírios viram que haviam sido derrotados por Israel, eles se reuniram.

16Hadadezer mandou trazer os sírios que estavam do outro lado do Rio; e eles vieram a Helã, tendo à frente Sobaque, o comandante do exército de Hadadezer.

17Informaram isso a Davi; e ele reuniu todo o Israel, atravessou o Jordão e foi a Helã. Os sírios se puseram em ordem de batalha contra Davi e lutaram contra ele.

18Os sírios fugiram de diante de Israel; e Davi matou setecentos condutores de carros dos sírios e quarenta mil cavaleiros, e feriu Sobaque, o comandante do exército deles, de modo que ele morreu ali.

19Quando todos os reis que eram servos de Hadadezer viram que haviam sido derrotados diante de Israel, fizeram paz com Israel e os serviram. Assim, os sírios tiveram medo de ajudar os filhos de Amom dali em diante.

1After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.

2David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”

4So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

5When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

6When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.

7When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.

8The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. The Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the field.

9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.

10The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.

11He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.

12Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God; and may Yahweh do what seems good to him.”

13So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.

14When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.

15When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.

16Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.

17David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David and fought with him.

18The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.

19When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.
