2 Reis 1— comparação

1Moabe rebelou-se contra Israel após a morte de Acabe.

2Acazias caiu pela grade do seu quarto no andar superior em Samaria, e ficou doente. Então ele enviou mensageiros, e disse-lhes: “Vão, consultem Baal-Zebube, o deus de Ecrom, para saber se eu me recuperarei desta doença.”

3Mas o anjo do SENHOR disse a Elias, o tesbita: “Levante-se, suba para encontrar os mensageiros do rei de Samaria, e diga-lhes: 'Acaso é porque não há Deus em Israel que vocês vão consultar Baal-Zebube, o deus de Ecrom?

4Portanto, agora assim diz o SENHOR: “Você não descerá da cama para a qual subiu, mas certamente morrerá.”'” Então Elias partiu.

5Os mensageiros voltaram a ele, e ele lhes perguntou: “Por que vocês voltaram?”

6Eles lhe disseram: “Um homem subiu para nos encontrar, e nos disse: 'Vão, voltem ao rei que os enviou, e digam-lhe: “Assim diz o SENHOR: 'Acaso é porque não há Deus em Israel que você manda consultar Baal-Zebube, o deus de Ecrom? Portanto, você não descerá da cama para a qual subiu, mas certamente morrerá.'”'”

7Ele lhes perguntou: “Que tipo de homem era ele, que subiu para encontrá-los e lhes disse estas palavras?”

8Eles lhe responderam: “Ele era um homem peludo, e usava um cinto de couro na cintura.”

9Então o rei enviou-lhe um capitão de cinquenta com seus cinquenta homens. Ele subiu até ele; e eis que, ele estava sentado no topo da colina. Ele lhe disse: “Homem de Deus, o rei disse: 'Desça!'”

10Elias respondeu ao capitão de cinquenta: “Se eu sou homem de Deus, então que desça fogo do céu e consuma você e os seus cinquenta!” Então desceu fogo do céu, e consumiu a ele e aos seus cinquenta.

11Novamente o rei lhe enviou outro capitão de cinquenta com seus cinquenta. Ele lhe respondeu: “Homem de Deus, o rei disse: 'Desça depressa!'”

12Elias lhes respondeu: “Se eu sou homem de Deus, então que desça fogo do céu e consuma você e os seus cinquenta!” Então o fogo de Deus desceu do céu, e consumiu a ele e aos seus cinquenta.

13Novamente o rei enviou o capitão de um terceiro grupo de cinquenta com seus cinquenta. O terceiro capitão de cinquenta subiu, e veio e caiu de joelhos diante de Elias, e suplicou-lhe, e disse-lhe: “Homem de Deus, por favor, que a minha vida e a vida destes cinquenta de seus servos sejam preciosas aos seus olhos.

14Eis que desceu fogo do céu e consumiu os dois últimos capitães de cinquenta com seus cinquenta. Mas agora, que a minha vida seja preciosa aos seus olhos.”

15O anjo do SENHOR disse a Elias: “Desça com ele. Não tenha medo dele.”

16Ele lhe disse: “Assim diz o SENHOR: 'Porque você enviou mensageiros para consultar Baal-Zebube, o deus de Ecrom, acaso é porque não há Deus em Israel para consultar a sua palavra? Portanto, você não descerá da cama para a qual subiu, mas certamente morrerá.'”

17Assim ele morreu, de acordo com a palavra do SENHOR que Elias havia falado. Jorão começou a reinar em seu lugar no segundo ano de Jorão, filho de Josafá, rei de Judá, porque ele não tinha filho.

18Ora, o restante dos atos de Acazias que ele fez, não estão escritos no livro das crônicas dos reis de Israel?

2Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper room that was in Samaria, and was sick. So he sent messengers, and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover from this sickness.”

3But Yahweh’s angel said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and tell them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you go to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron?

4Now therefore Yahweh says, “You will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.”’” Then Elijah departed.

5The messengers returned to him, and he said to them, “Why is it that you have returned?”

6They said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and tell him, “Yahweh says, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you send to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.’”’”

7He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you and told you these words?”

8They answered him, “He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist.” He said, “It’s Elijah the Tishbite.”

9Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’”

10Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty!” Then fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

11Again he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down quickly!’”

12Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty!” Then God’s fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty.

13Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, please let my life and the life of these fifty of your servants be precious in your sight.

14Behold, fire came down from the sky and consumed the last two captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight.”

15Yahweh’s angel said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.” Then he arose and went down with him to the king.

16He said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.’”

17So he died according to Yahweh’s word which Elijah had spoken. Jehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, because he had no son.

18Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
