2 Reis 11— comparação

1Quando Atalia, mãe de Acazias, viu que seu filho estava morto, ela se levantou e destruiu toda a descendência real.

2Mas Jeoseba, filha do rei Jorão e irmã de Acazias, pegou Joás, filho de Acazias, e o tirou secretamente do meio dos filhos do rei que estavam sendo assassinados, e o colocou com a sua ama em um quarto de dormir; e eles o esconderam de Atalia, de modo que ele não foi morto.

3Ele esteve escondido com ela na casa do SENHOR por seis anos, enquanto Atalia reinava sobre a terra.

4No sétimo ano, Joiada mandou chamar os capitães de cem dos cáreos e da guarda, e os trouxe a ele na casa do SENHOR; ele fez uma aliança com eles, firmando um pacto com eles na casa do SENHOR, e lhes mostrou o filho do rei.

5Ele lhes ordenou, dizendo: “Isto é o que vocês devem fazer: um terço de vocês, que entram de serviço no sábado, serão os guardas da casa do rei;

6um terço de vocês estará na porta de Sur; e um terço de vocês na porta atrás da guarda. Assim vocês farão a guarda da casa, servindo de barreira.

7As duas companhias de vocês, ou seja, todos os que saem de serviço no sábado, farão a guarda da casa do SENHOR ao redor do rei.

8Vocês cercarão o rei, cada homem com suas armas na mão; e aquele que entrar nas fileiras, que seja morto. Estejam com o rei quando ele sair e quando ele entrar.”

9Os capitães de cem fizeram de acordo com tudo o que o sacerdote Joiada ordenou; e cada um pegou os seus homens, tanto os que iam entrar de serviço no sábado quanto os que iam sair de serviço no sábado, e vieram ao sacerdote Joiada.

10O sacerdote entregou aos capitães de cem as lanças e os escudos que haviam sido do rei Davi, que estavam na casa do SENHOR.

11A guarda se posicionou, cada homem com suas armas na mão, desde o lado direito da casa até o lado esquerdo da casa, junto ao altar e à casa, ao redor do rei.

12Então ele trouxe para fora o filho do rei, colocou a coroa sobre ele e lhe entregou a aliança; e o fizeram rei e o ungiram; e bateram palmas e disseram: “Viva o rei!”

13Quando Atalia ouviu o barulho da guarda e do povo, ela foi até o povo na casa do SENHOR;

14e ela olhou, e eis que o rei estava junto à coluna, como era o costume, com os capitães e os trombetistas junto ao rei; e todo o povo da terra se alegrava e tocava trombetas. Então Atalia rasgou as suas roupas e gritou: “Traição! Traição!”

15O sacerdote Joiada deu ordens aos capitães de cem que estavam no comando do exército, e lhes disse: “Levem-na para fora por entre as fileiras. Matem à espada qualquer um que a seguir.” Pois o sacerdote tinha dito: “Não deixem que ela seja morta na casa do SENHOR.”

16Então eles a agarraram; e ela foi pelo caminho da entrada dos cavalos para a casa do rei, e lá ela foi morta.

17Joiada fez uma aliança entre o SENHOR, o rei e o povo, para que eles fossem o povo do SENHOR; e também entre o rei e o povo.

18Todo o povo da terra foi à casa de Baal e a derrubou. Eles despedaçaram completamente os seus altares e as suas imagens, e mataram Matã, o sacerdote de Baal, diante dos altares. O sacerdote nomeou oficiais sobre a casa do SENHOR.

19Ele reuniu os capitães de cem, os cáreos, a guarda e todo o povo da terra; e eles desceram com o rei da casa do SENHOR, e foram pelo caminho da porta da guarda para a casa do rei. Ele se assentou no trono dos reis.

20Então todo o povo da terra se alegrou, e a cidade ficou tranquila. Eles haviam matado Atalia à espada na casa do rei.

21Jeoás tinha sete anos de idade quando começou a reinar.

1Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal offspring.

2But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain, even him and his nurse, and put them in the bedroom; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

3He was with her hidden in Yahweh’s house six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.

4In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into Yahweh’s house; and he made a covenant with them, and made a covenant with them in Yahweh’s house, and showed them the king’s son.

5He commanded them, saying, “This is what you must do: a third of you, who come in on the Sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;

6a third of you shall be at the gate Sur; and a third of you at the gate behind the guard. So you shall keep the watch of the house, and be a barrier.

7The two companies of you, even all who go out on the Sabbath, shall keep the watch of Yahweh’s house around the king.

8You shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he who comes within the ranks, let him be slain. Be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.”

9The captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they each took his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

10The priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been King David’s, which were in Yahweh’s house.

11The guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.

12Then he brought out the king’s son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the covenant; and they made him king and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, “Long live the king!”

13When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into Yahweh’s house;

14and she looked, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the tradition was, with the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and cried, “Treason! Treason!”

15Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks. Kill anyone who follows her with the sword.” For the priest said, “Don’t let her be slain in Yahweh’s house.”

16So they seized her; and she went by the way of the horses’ entry to the king’s house, and she was slain there.

17Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh and the king and the people, that they should be Yahweh’s people; also between the king and the people.

18All the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down. They broke his altars and his images in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over Yahweh’s house.

19He took the captains over hundreds, and the Carites, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from Yahweh’s house, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. He sat on the throne of the kings.

20So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. They had slain Athaliah with the sword at the king’s house.

21Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.
