1Então o povo da terra tomou Jeoacaz, filho de Josias, e o fez rei em lugar de seu pai, em Jerusalém.

2Joacaz tinha vinte e três anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou três meses em Jerusalém.

3O rei do Egito o depôs em Jerusalém, e impôs à terra uma multa de cem talentos de prata e um talento de ouro.

4O rei do Egito fez de Eliaquim, irmão dele, rei sobre Judá e Jerusalém, e mudou seu nome para Jeoaquim. Neco tomou Joacaz, seu irmão, e o levou para o Egito.

5Jeoaquim tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou onze anos em Jerusalém. Ele fez o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR, seu Deus.

6Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, subiu contra ele e o prendeu com grilhões para levá-lo à Babilônia.

7Nabucodonosor também levou alguns dos utensílios da casa do SENHOR para a Babilônia, e os colocou em seu templo na Babilônia.

8Ora, o restante dos atos de Jeoaquim, e as abominações que cometeu, e o que foi achado contra ele, eis que estão escritos no livro dos reis de Israel e de Judá; e Joaquim, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

9Joaquim tinha oito anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou três meses e dez dias em Jerusalém. Ele fez o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR.

10Na virada do ano, o rei Nabucodonosor mandou buscá-lo e o levou para a Babilônia, com os utensílios valiosos da casa do SENHOR, e fez de Zedequias, seu irmão, rei sobre Judá e Jerusalém.

11Zedequias tinha vinte e um anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou onze anos em Jerusalém.

12Ele fez o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR, seu Deus. Ele não se humilhou diante do profeta Jeremias, que falava da boca do SENHOR.

13Ele também se rebelou contra o rei Nabucodonosor, que o havia feito jurar por Deus; mas ele endureceu a sua cerviz e endureceu o seu coração, para não se voltar para o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel.

14Além disso, todos os chefes dos sacerdotes e o povo transgrediram muitíssimo, seguindo todas as abominações das nações; e profanaram a casa do SENHOR, que ele havia santificado em Jerusalém.

15O SENHOR, o Deus de seus pais, enviou-lhes a sua palavra por meio de seus mensageiros, levantando-se cedo e enviando-os, porque teve compaixão do seu povo e da sua habitação;

16mas eles zombaram dos mensageiros de Deus, desprezaram as suas palavras e ridicularizaram os seus profetas, até que a ira do SENHOR se levantou contra o seu povo, até que não houvesse mais remédio.

17Portanto, ele trouxe sobre eles o rei dos caldeus, que matou os seus jovens à espada na casa do seu santuário, e não teve compaixão de jovem ou virgem, de idoso ou enfermo. Ele entregou a todos nas mãos dele.

18Todos os utensílios da casa de Deus, grandes e pequenos, e os tesouros da casa do SENHOR, e os tesouros do rei e dos seus príncipes, tudo isso ele levou para a Babilônia.

19Eles queimaram a casa de Deus, derrubaram a muralha de Jerusalém, queimaram todos os seus palácios a fogo e destruíram todos os seus utensílios valiosos.

20Ele levou os que haviam escapado da espada para a Babilônia, e eles foram servos dele e de seus filhos até o reinado do reino da Pérsia,

21para cumprir a palavra do SENHOR pela boca de Jeremias, até que a terra tivesse desfrutado dos seus sábados. Durante todo o tempo em que esteve desolada, ela guardou o sábado, para cumprir setenta anos.

22Ora, no primeiro ano de Ciro, rei da Pérsia, para que a palavra do SENHOR pela boca de Jeremias se cumprisse, o SENHOR despertou o espírito de Ciro, rei da Pérsia, de modo que ele fez uma proclamação por todo o seu reino, e também a colocou por escrito, dizendo:

23“Ciro, rei da Pérsia, diz: ‘O SENHOR, o Deus dos céus, me deu todos os reinos da terra; e ele me ordenou que lhe edificasse uma casa em Jerusalém, que fica em Judá. Quem quer que haja entre vocês de todo o seu povo, que o SENHOR, seu Deus, esteja com ele, e que ele suba.’”

1Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s place in Jerusalem.

2Joahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

3The king of Egypt removed him from office at Jerusalem, and fined the land one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

4The king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. Neco took Joahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.

5Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did that which was evil in Yahweh his God’s sight.

6Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him, and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon.

7Nebuchadnezzar also carried some of the vessels of Yahweh’s house to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.

8Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah; and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.

9Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight.

10At the return of the year, King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the valuable vessels of Yahweh’s house, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

11Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.

12He did that which was evil in Yahweh his God’s sight. He didn’t humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from Yahweh’s mouth.

13He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart against turning to Yahweh, the God of Israel.

14Moreover all the chiefs of the priests and the people trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted Yahweh’s house which he had made holy in Jerusalem.

15Yahweh, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place;

16but they mocked the messengers of God, despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until Yahweh’s wrath arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

17Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or infirm. He gave them all into his hand.

18All the vessels of God’s house, great and small, and the treasures of Yahweh’s house, and the treasures of the king and of his princes, all these he brought to Babylon.

19They burned God’s house, broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all of its valuable vessels.

20He carried those who had escaped from the sword away to Babylon, and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia,

21to fulfill Yahweh’s word by Jeremiah’s mouth, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. As long as it lay desolate, it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

22Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that Yahweh’s word by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

23“Cyrus king of Persia says, ‘Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given all the kingdoms of the earth to me; and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all his people, Yahweh his God be with him, and let him go up.’”
