1 Samuel 1— comparação

1Havia um certo homem de Ramataim-Zofim, da região montanhosa de Efraim, e o seu nome era Elcana, filho de Jeroão, filho de Eliú, filho de Toú, filho de Zufe, um efraimita.

2Ele tinha duas mulheres: o nome de uma era Ana, e o nome da outra, Penina. Penina tinha filhos, mas Ana não os tinha.

3Este homem subia da sua cidade de ano em ano para adorar e sacrificar ao SENHOR dos Exércitos em Siló. Lá estavam os dois filhos de Eli, Hofni e Fineias, sacerdotes do SENHOR.

4Quando chegava o dia em que Elcana oferecia o sacrifício, ele dava porções à sua mulher Penina e a todos os filhos e filhas dela;

5mas a Ana ele dava uma porção dupla, porque amava Ana, embora o SENHOR lhe tivesse cerrado o ventre.

6A sua rival a provocava severamente, para irritá-la, porque o SENHOR lhe havia cerrado o ventre.

7E assim acontecia ano após ano; sempre que Ana subia à casa do SENHOR, a sua rival a provocava. Por isso ela chorava e não comia.

8Elcana, o seu marido, lhe perguntava: “Ana, por que você chora? Por que não come? Por que o seu coração está amargurado? Por acaso eu não sou melhor para você do que dez filhos?”

9Uma vez, depois que terminaram de comer e beber em Siló, Ana se levantou. Ora, o sacerdote Eli estava sentado na sua cadeira, junto à porta do templo do SENHOR.

10Ela estava com a alma amargurada, e orou ao SENHOR, chorando muito.

11E fez um voto, dizendo: “Ó SENHOR dos Exércitos, se tu de fato olhares para a aflição da tua serva, e te lembrares de mim, e não te esqueceres da tua serva, mas deres à tua serva um filho homem, então eu o dedicarei ao SENHOR por todos os dias da sua vida, e nenhuma navalha passará sobre a sua cabeça.”

12Como ela continuasse a orar perante o SENHOR, Eli observava a sua boca.

13Ora, Ana falava no seu coração; apenas os seus lábios se moviam, mas não se ouvia a sua voz. Por isso, Eli pensou que ela estivesse embriagada.

14E Eli lhe disse: “Até quando você ficará embriagada? Livre-se do seu vinho!”

15Ana respondeu: “Não, meu senhor, eu sou uma mulher de espírito abatido. Não bebi vinho nem bebida forte, mas derramei a minha alma perante o SENHOR.

16Não considere a sua serva uma mulher ímpia; pois tenho falado até agora da abundância da minha queixa e da minha angústia.”

17Então Eli respondeu: “Vá em paz; e que o Deus de Israel lhe conceda a petição que você lhe fez.”

18Ela disse: “Que a sua serva encontre favor aos seus olhos.” Então a mulher seguiu o seu caminho e comeu; e a sua expressão facial já não era triste.

19Eles se levantaram de madrugada, adoraram perante o SENHOR, e então retornaram para a sua casa em Ramá. Elcana coabitou com Ana, a sua mulher, e o SENHOR se lembrou dela.

20Passado o tempo, Ana concebeu e deu à luz um filho; e ela o chamou de Samuel, dizendo: “Porque o pedi ao SENHOR.”

21O homem Elcana e toda a sua casa subiram para oferecer ao SENHOR o sacrifício anual e o seu voto.

22Mas Ana não subiu, pois disse ao seu marido: “Não irei até que o menino seja desmamado; então o levarei, para que ele se apresente perante o SENHOR, e fique lá para sempre.”

23Elcana, o seu marido, lhe disse: “Faça o que lhe parecer melhor. Fique até que o tenha desmamado; somente que o SENHOR confirme a sua palavra.”

24Depois de desmamá-lo, ela o levou consigo, juntamente com três novilhos, um efa de farinha e um odre de vinho, e o trouxe à casa do SENHOR em Siló. O menino ainda era pequeno.

25Eles sacrificaram o novilho e trouxeram o menino a Eli.

26Ela disse: “Ah, meu senhor, tão certo como a sua alma vive, meu senhor, eu sou aquela mulher que esteve aqui perto do senhor, orando ao SENHOR.

27Foi por este menino que eu orei, e o SENHOR me concedeu a petição que lhe fiz.

28Portanto, eu também o dediquei ao SENHOR. Por toda a sua vida ele será dedicado ao SENHOR.” E ali ele adorou ao SENHOR.

1Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

2He had two wives. The name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

4When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters;

5but he gave a double portion to Hannah, for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.

6Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.

7So year by year, when she went up to Yahweh’s house, her rival provoked her. Therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.

8Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

9So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.

10She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, weeping bitterly.

11She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

12As she continued praying before Yahweh, Eli saw her mouth.

13Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

14Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine!”

15Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have not been drinking wine or strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.

16Don’t consider your servant a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”

17Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”

18She said, “Let your servant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.

19They rose up in the morning early and worshiped Yahweh, then returned and came to their house to Ramah. Then Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.

20When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

21The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice and his vow.

22But Hannah didn’t go up, for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yahweh, and stay there forever.”

23Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahweh establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son until she weaned him.

24When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah of meal, and a container of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.

25They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.

26She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Yahweh.

27I prayed for this child, and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.

28Therefore I have also given him to Yahweh. As long as he lives he is given to Yahweh.” He worshiped Yahweh there.
