1 Reis 1— comparação

1Ora, o rei Davi estava velho e de idade avançada; cobriam-no com roupas, mas ele não conseguia se aquecer.

2Portanto, seus servos lhe disseram: “Que se busque uma jovem virgem para o meu senhor, o rei. Que ela fique diante do rei e cuide dele; e que ela se deite em seus braços, para que o meu senhor, o rei, possa se aquecer.”

3Então, buscaram uma jovem bonita por todos os territórios de Israel, encontraram Abisague, a sunamita, e a trouxeram ao rei.

4A jovem era muito bonita; ela cuidava do rei e o servia, mas o rei não a conheceu intimamente.

5Então Adonias, filho de Hagite, exaltou a si mesmo, dizendo: “Eu serei rei.” E preparou para si carros e cavaleiros, e cinquenta homens para correrem adiante dele.

6Seu pai nunca o havia contrariado em momento algum, dizendo: “Por que você fez isso?” Ele também era um homem de muito boa aparência, e havia nascido depois de Absalão.

7Ele consultou Joabe, filho de Zeruia, e o sacerdote Abiatar; e eles seguiram Adonias e o ajudaram.

8Mas o sacerdote Zadoque, Benaia, filho de Joiada, o profeta Natã, Simei, Rei e os valentes que pertenciam a Davi não estavam com Adonias.

9Adonias sacrificou ovelhas, bois e bezerros cevados junto à pedra de Zoelete, que fica perto de En-Rogel; e convidou todos os seus irmãos, os filhos do rei, e todos os homens de Judá, os servos do rei;

10mas não convidou o profeta Natã, nem Benaia, nem os valentes, nem o seu irmão Salomão.

11Então Natã falou a Bate-Seba, mãe de Salomão, dizendo: “Você não ouviu que Adonias, filho de Hagite, reina, e Davi, nosso senhor, não sabe disso?

12Agora, portanto, venha, por favor, deixe-me dar-lhe um conselho, para que você possa salvar a sua própria vida e a vida do seu filho Salomão.

13Vá ao rei Davi e diga-lhe: ‘O senhor, meu rei, não jurou à sua serva, dizendo: “Certamente o seu filho Salomão reinará depois de mim, e ele se assentará no meu trono”? Por que, então, Adonias reina?’

14Eis que, enquanto você ainda estiver lá falando com o rei, eu também entrarei depois de você e confirmarei as suas palavras.”

15Bate-Seba foi até o rei em seu quarto. O rei estava muito velho; e Abisague, a sunamita, estava servindo ao rei.

16Bate-Seba inclinou-se e prestou reverência ao rei. O rei perguntou: “O que você deseja?”

17Ela lhe respondeu: “Meu senhor, você jurou pelo SENHOR seu Deus à sua serva: ‘Certamente o seu filho Salomão reinará depois de mim, e ele se assentará no meu trono.’

18Agora, eis que Adonias reina; e você, meu senhor, o rei, não sabe disso.

19Ele sacrificou bois, bezerros cevados e ovelhas em abundância, e convidou todos os filhos do rei, o sacerdote Abiatar e Joabe, o comandante do exército; mas não convidou o seu servo Salomão.

20Quanto a você, meu senhor, o rei, os olhos de todo o Israel estão sobre você, para que lhes diga quem se assentará no trono do meu senhor, o rei, depois dele.

21Caso contrário, acontecerá que, quando o meu senhor, o rei, descansar com os seus pais, eu e o meu filho Salomão seremos considerados criminosos.”

22Eis que, enquanto ela ainda falava com o rei, o profeta Natã entrou.

23Anunciaram ao rei, dizendo: “Eis o profeta Natã!”

24Natã disse: “Meu senhor, ó rei, por acaso você disse: ‘Adonias reinará depois de mim, e ele se assentará no meu trono’?

25Pois ele desceu hoje, e sacrificou bois, bezerros cevados e ovelhas em abundância, e convidou todos os filhos do rei, os comandantes do exército e o sacerdote Abiatar. Eis que eles estão comendo e bebendo diante dele, e dizendo: ‘Viva o rei Adonias!’

26Mas ele não convidou a mim, o seu servo, nem ao sacerdote Zadoque, nem a Benaia, filho de Joiada, nem ao seu servo Salomão.

27Foi esta coisa feita pelo meu senhor, o rei, sem que você tenha revelado aos seus servos quem deveria se assentar no trono do meu senhor, o rei, depois dele?”

28Então o rei Davi respondeu: “Chamem Bate-Seba para mim.” Ela entrou na presença do rei e ficou de pé diante dele.

29O rei fez um juramento e disse: “Tão certo como vive o SENHOR, que resgatou a minha alma de toda a adversidade,

30com toda a certeza, assim como eu jurei a você pelo SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, dizendo: ‘Certamente o seu filho Salomão reinará depois de mim, e ele se assentará no meu trono em meu lugar’; eu com toda a certeza farei isso hoje.”

31Então Bate-Seba inclinou-se com o rosto em terra, prestou reverência ao rei e disse: “Que o meu senhor, o rei Davi, viva para sempre!”

32O rei Davi disse: “Chamem-me o sacerdote Zadoque, o profeta Natã e Benaia, filho de Joiada.” Eles vieram à presença do rei.

33O rei lhes disse: “Levem com vocês os servos do seu senhor, façam o meu filho Salomão montar na minha própria mula, e levem-no para baixo, a Giom.

34Que o sacerdote Zadoque e o profeta Natã o unjam ali como rei sobre Israel. Toquem a trombeta e digam: ‘Viva o rei Salomão!’

35Depois subam atrás dele, e ele virá e se assentará no meu trono; pois ele será rei em meu lugar. Eu o designei para ser governante sobre Israel e sobre Judá.”

36Benaia, filho de Joiada, respondeu ao rei e disse: “Amém. Que o SENHOR, o Deus do meu senhor, o rei, assim o confirme.

37Assim como o SENHOR esteve com o meu senhor, o rei, que ele também esteja com Salomão, e torne o seu trono maior do que o trono do meu senhor, o rei Davi.”

38Então o sacerdote Zadoque, o profeta Natã, Benaia, filho de Joiada, os quereteus e os peleteus desceram, fizeram Salomão montar na mula do rei Davi, e o levaram a Giom.

39O sacerdote Zadoque pegou o chifre de óleo da Tenda e ungiu Salomão. Eles tocaram a trombeta, e todo o povo gritou: “Viva o rei Salomão!”

40Todo o povo subiu atrás dele, tocando flautas e alegrando-se com grande alegria, de modo que a terra estremeceu com o som deles.

41Adonias e todos os convidados que estavam com ele ouviram isso quando terminavam de comer. Quando Joabe ouviu o som da trombeta, perguntou: “Por que há esse barulho de alvoroço na cidade?”

42Enquanto ele ainda falava, eis que chegou Jônatas, filho do sacerdote Abiatar; e Adonias disse: “Entre, pois você é um homem de valor e traz boas notícias.”

43Jônatas respondeu a Adonias: “Com toda a certeza, o nosso senhor, o rei Davi, constituiu Salomão como rei.

44O rei enviou com ele o sacerdote Zadoque, o profeta Natã, Benaia, filho de Joiada, os quereteus e os peleteus; e eles o fizeram montar na mula do rei.

45O sacerdote Zadoque e o profeta Natã o ungiram rei em Giom. De lá eles subiram se alegrando, de modo que a cidade está em alvoroço. Esse é o barulho que vocês ouviram.

46Além disso, Salomão já está assentado no trono do reino.

47E mais, os servos do rei vieram abençoar o nosso senhor, o rei Davi, dizendo: ‘Que o seu Deus torne o nome de Salomão melhor do que o seu nome, e torne o trono dele maior do que o seu trono’; e o rei se inclinou em sua cama.

48O rei também disse o seguinte: ‘Bendito seja o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, que hoje concedeu que alguém se assentasse no meu trono, permitindo que os meus próprios olhos o vissem.’”

49Todos os convidados de Adonias ficaram com medo, levantaram-se e cada um seguiu o seu caminho.

50Adonias teve medo de Salomão; ele se levantou, foi e agarrou-se às pontas do altar.

51Informaram a Salomão: “Eis que Adonias teme o rei Salomão; pois, eis que ele está agarrado às pontas do altar, dizendo: ‘Que o rei Salomão me jure primeiro que não matará o seu servo à espada.’”

52Salomão disse: “Se ele se mostrar um homem de valor, nem um só fio de seu cabelo cairá por terra; mas, se for achada maldade nele, ele morrerá.”

53Então o rei Salomão mandou mensageiros, e o desceram do altar. Ele veio e prostrou-se diante do rei Salomão; e Salomão lhe disse: “Vá para a sua casa.”

1Now King David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn’t keep warm.

2Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young virgin be sought for my lord the king. Let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm.”

3So they sought for a beautiful young lady throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

4The young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and served him; but the king didn’t know her intimately.

5Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6His father had not displeased him at any time in saying, “Why have you done so?” and he was also a very handsome man; and he was born after Absalom.

7He conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest; and they followed Adonijah and helped him.

8But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

9Adonijah killed sheep, cattle, and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel; and he called all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants;

10but he didn’t call Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

11Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?

12Now therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life and your son Solomon’s life.

13Go in to King David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord the king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then does Adonijah reign?’

14Behold, while you are still talking there with the king, I will also come in after you and confirm your words.”

15Bathsheba went in to the king in his room. The king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.

16Bathsheba bowed and showed respect to the king. The king said, “What would you like?”

17She said to him, “My lord, you swore by Yahweh your God to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

18Now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and you, my lord the king, don’t know it.

19He has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but he hasn’t called Solomon your servant.

20You, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”

22Behold, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

23They told the king, saying, “Behold, Nathan the prophet!” When he had come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24Nathan said, “My lord, King, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne’?

25For he has gone down today, and has slain cattle, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king’s sons, the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest. Behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’

26But he hasn’t called me, even me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon.

27Was this thing done by my lord the king, and you haven’t shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

28Then King David answered, “Call Bathsheba in to me.” She came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

29The king vowed and said, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

30most certainly as I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place;’ I will most certainly do this today.”

31Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and showed respect to the king, and said, “Let my lord King David live forever!”

32King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” They came before the king.

33The king said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

34Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. Blow the trumpet, and say, ‘Long live King Solomon!’

35Then come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my place. I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.”

36Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, “Amen. May Yahweh, the God of my lord the king, say so.

37As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”

38So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent, and anointed Solomon. They blew the trumpet; and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”

40All the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with their sound.

41Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they had finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, “Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?”

42While he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said, “Come in; for you are a worthy man, and bring good news.”

43Jonathan answered Adonijah, “Most certainly our lord King David has made Solomon king.

44The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride on the king’s mule.

45Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon. They have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard.

46Also, Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.

47Moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne;’ and the king bowed himself on the bed.

48Also thus said the king, ‘Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, my eyes even seeing it.’”

49All the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and each man went his way.

50Adonijah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and hung onto the horns of the altar.

51Solomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for, behold, he is hanging onto the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’”

52Solomon said, “If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of his shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”

53So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”
