1 Reis 17— comparação

1Elias, o tesbita, que era um dos moradores de Gileade, disse a Acabe: “Tão certo como vive o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, perante quem estou, não haverá orvalho nem chuva nestes anos, senão segundo a minha palavra.”

2Então a palavra do SENHOR veio a ele, dizendo:

3“Vá embora daqui, vire para o leste e esconda-se junto ao ribeiro de Querite, que está diante do Jordão.

4Você beberá do ribeiro. Eu ordenei aos corvos que o alimentem ali.”

5Então ele foi e fez segundo a palavra do SENHOR, pois foi e morou junto ao ribeiro de Querite, que está diante do Jordão.

6Os corvos lhe traziam pão e carne pela manhã, e pão e carne à tarde; e ele bebia do ribeiro.

7Depois de algum tempo, o ribeiro secou, porque não havia chuva na terra.

8A palavra do SENHOR veio a ele, dizendo:

9“Levante-se, vá para Sarepta, que pertence a Sidom, e fique lá. Eis que ordenei a uma viúva ali que o sustente.”

10Então ele se levantou e foi para Sarepta; e quando chegou à porta da cidade, eis que uma viúva estava ali apanhando lenha. Ele a chamou e disse: “Por favor, traga-me um pouco de água numa vasilha, para que eu possa beber.”

11Enquanto ela estava indo buscar, ele a chamou e disse: “Por favor, traga-me também um pedaço de pão na sua mão.”

12Ela disse: “Tão certo como vive o SENHOR, o seu Deus, não tenho nada assado, mas apenas um punhado de farinha num pote e um pouco de azeite num jarro. Eis que estou apanhando dois pedaços de lenha, para que eu possa entrar e prepará-lo para mim e para o meu filho, para que o comamos e morramos.”

13Elias disse a ela: “Não tenha medo. Vá e faça como você disse; mas primeiro faça-me um pequeno bolo com isso, e traga-o para mim, e depois faça um pouco para você e para o seu filho.

14Pois assim diz o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel: 'O pote de farinha não se acabará, e o jarro de azeite não faltará, até o dia em que o SENHOR enviar chuva sobre a terra.'”

15Ela foi e fez segundo a palavra de Elias; e ela, ele e a sua casa comeram por muitos dias.

16O pote de farinha não se acabou e o jarro de azeite não faltou, segundo a palavra do SENHOR, que ele falou por meio de Elias.

17Depois destas coisas, o filho da mulher, a dona da casa, ficou doente; e a sua doença foi tão grave que não lhe restou mais fôlego.

18Ela disse a Elias: “O que eu tenho a ver com você, homem de Deus? Você veio a mim para trazer o meu pecado à memória e para matar o meu filho!”

19Ele lhe disse: “Dê-me o seu filho.” Ele o tirou do colo dela, e o carregou para cima, para o quarto onde ele estava hospedado, e o deitou em sua própria cama.

20Ele clamou ao SENHOR e disse: “Ó SENHOR, meu Deus, o Senhor também trouxe o mal sobre a viúva com quem estou hospedado, matando o seu filho?”

21Ele se estendeu sobre o menino três vezes, e clamou ao SENHOR e disse: “Ó SENHOR, meu Deus, por favor, que a alma deste menino volte a entrar nele.”

22O SENHOR ouviu a voz de Elias; e a alma do menino voltou a entrar nele, e ele reviveu.

23Elias pegou o menino e o trouxe do quarto para baixo, para dentro da casa, e o entregou à sua mãe; e Elias disse: “Eis que o seu filho vive.”

24A mulher disse a Elias: “Agora eu sei que você é um homem de Deus, e que a palavra do SENHOR na sua boca é a verdade.”

1Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

2Then Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,

3“Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

4You shall drink from the brook. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

5So he went and did according to Yahweh’s word, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan.

6The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

7After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

8Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,

9“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.”

10So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.”

11As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

12She said, “As Yahweh your God lives, I don’t have anything baked, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jar. Behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

13Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you have said; but make me a little cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son.

14For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘The jar of meal will not run out, and the jar of oil will not fail, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the earth.’”

15She went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, he, and her household ate many days.

16The jar of meal didn’t run out and the jar of oil didn’t fail, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by Elijah.

17After these things, the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.

18She said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”

19He said to her, “Give me your son.” He took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.

20He cried to Yahweh and said, “Yahweh my God, have you also brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying, by killing her son?”

21He stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to Yahweh and said, “Yahweh my God, please let this child’s soul come into him again.”

22Yahweh listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the room into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, “Behold, your son lives.”

24The woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that Yahweh’s word in your mouth is truth.”
